Safe Loading and Cargo Securing Programme

About the Karwa Driving School’s IRU Academy's Safe Loading and Cargo Securing Programme

Why it matters

Safe loading and cargo securing is vital to road transport. In order to have legal and safe cargo traffic on our roads, it is necessary to take the correct loading and securing measures for different types of cargo being transported. Legislation on Transport Operators and Drivers’ qualification require today that a strong emphasis is placed on this topic.

Target audience

This interactive programme is aimed at anyone involved in loading and cargo securing on road transport vehicles, including transport operators, drivers, loaders, customers and suppliers.
This interactive programme is available in English, Russian and French, both in traditional instructor led classroom format, and as an online computer based training course.

Technical standards

This programme includes key elements of the International Best Practice Guidelines on Cargo Securing for Road Transport, and incorporates the latest GCC standard on cargo securing.

Contents

This programme answers questions such as:

What are the limitations on axle loads?

Which loading and securing techniques shall be applied to a specific cargo?

Which equipment should be used to safely secure a specific cargo?

How many lashings and other safety equipment should be used for a specific cargo?

Topics covered include risks and responsibilities, technical standards, laws of physics, vehicle characteristics, categories of goods transported, loading best practices, securing material and securing techniques.

Simulator

Practice and learning by experience are the most effective ways of transferring knowledge with successful results.

The IRU Academy Safe Loading and Cargo Securing Training programme not only provides up to date theoretical knowledge but through exercises and simulations it also tests the acquired understanding through various scenarios. Students will use a unique cargo loading & securing simulator to try out different scenarios covering a wide range of situations to ultimately hone their technical skills in a cost efficient and safe environment.

The simulator provides autonomy in load configuration, and once finalised, each loading simulation is scored depending on weight distribution, securing materials’ choice and number of lashings used. The simulations are also a key feature to help instructors identify mistakes and pitfalls, and elaborate on topics which need additional explanations.
